About

I am Nicole Wijngaarden, a Wellington-based Relationship & Wellbeing Coach and HeartMath® Certified Coach and Mentor with more than 10 years of experience supporting adults, young adults and couples.

People often come to see me because they want more than advice. They are looking for a therapeutic space where they feel safe, heard and supported while making sense of what is happening beneath the surface. My role is to help you gain clarity, understand recurring patterns and find practical ways to move forward.

I work with people experiencing stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, separation or divorce, grief, low confidence and significant life transitions. Together, we may focus on emotional regulation, communication, boundaries, resilience, self-awareness and rebuilding a stronger connection with yourself and others.

HeartMath is an important part of my practice. I use HeartMath techniques, wellbeing assessments and heart-rate variability (HRV) biofeedback to help clients understand how stress may be affecting their nervous system, emotions, relationships and daily life. These practical tools can support greater physiological coherence and a calmer, more intentional response to challenging situations.

My approach also draws on NLP, deep listening and evidence-informed wellbeing and behaviour-change practices. Sessions are warm, compassionate and personalised rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme. I believe everyone has the capacity to grow when they feel safe, understood and supported.

I offer private in-person sessions at Capital Sports Medicine in Wellington CBD, online sessions throughout New Zealand and internationally, and walk-and-talk coaching for clients who find that movement and nature help conversation, reflection and new perspectives flow more naturally.

Approved Modalities
  • Multiple Brain Integration Techniques mBIT
Multiple Brain Integration Techniques (mBIT) is a coaching model that draws from the latest neuroscience research to integrate the functions of the three main parts of the brain: the head brain, the heart brain, and the gut-brain. The techniques aim to align and balance these three brains to enable individuals to make better decisions, increase self-awareness, and improve their communication and relationships. mBIT is based on the idea that each of the three brains has unique capabilities and that when all three work together, individuals can achieve optimal performance and decision-making abilities. The model includes techniques such as meditation, self-reflection, and guided visualization, among others, to help individuals integrate and align their three brains.
  • Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Co-founded by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970’s, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) enables us to understand how our brain processes the words we use and how that can effect our programming and behaviour. Engaging various tools and techniques, practitioners support clients with re-programming their neurology, language and actions. Rather than allowing thoughts to be passive, NLP techniques help to look at thoughts, feelings and emotions as things that can be controlled. Techniques can include things such as Imagery Training, NLP Swish, Modelling, Mirroring, and Incantations.
  • HeartMath®
HeartMath® is a system developed by Doc Childre in 1991, offering self-regulation techniques, protocols, and technologies to create psychophysiological coherence by changing heart rhythm patterns through sustained positive emotions. This coherence leads to emotional stability, mental clarity, and improved cognitive function. The system empowers individuals to reduce stress, increase resilience, and access intuitive guidance. Over 300 studies have been published on its effectiveness. HeartMath® is used in various settings, including corporations, government agencies, military, schools, hospitals, and health professionals. It can be delivered one-on-one or in group workshops, providing a scientifically-based approach to achieving positive outcomes for emotional and physical well-being.
